SOPA and PIPA black out day.

I know this is long, but please read. Tomorrow, January 18th, hundreds of internet sites like reddit, wikipedia, and the website for mozilla firefox are going to black out in protest to the proposed SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect IP Act). What is your opinion on all of this? Mine is this: These bills that actively censor the internet and give companies the ability to shut down entire websites due to only the possibility of piracy are bad. They should not pass. Voice your opinions here. If you are from the United States of America (like I am) then it would also be a good idea to let congress know that censoring the internet is bad. For those of you who think "Oh, stupid Americans and there stupid bills" (a.k.a: not from the U.S) then you should be afraid of these bills to. Imagine, your favorite American based sites (like Youtube) could be shut down or heavily censored. I know people are not fans of excessive censorship. The U.S could potentially screw over half the internet, (yah, that also means social networking) and tick-off a lot of people if it passes.

In a nutshell: SOPA and PIPA are BAD. Do not let it pass if you value internet freedom. Voive your opinions please.

This had better not happen, if so that will kill the Internet.
And let's just say some site like YouTube got closed, that is like one of the worlds top tens sites, I would feel like putting a gun barrel in my mouth.

I suggest people do their own research. Look it up and see what it all says for themselves.

With that said. I am against SOPA and PIPA. Like previously mentioned, it gives the government "dictatorship" over the internet.
Anything they say is piracy, or even if they feel it might be, could be shut down.
So if I posted a fresh .jar for someone to downgrade to on here. They could shut down this website as a whole.

As it stands right now, SOPA has been declared as "dead", which is good.

However, PIPA has not been killed...yet.

Let's all take pause to remember that China(and other communist countries) limit internet use much like this. There is a fine line between limiting piracy and limiting free speech. It's hard to say what exactly will be a good solution, but SOPA and PIPA sure as hell aren't going to stop it. "wherever there is power and a will to do wrong, wrong will be done. Likewise, wherever there is internet and a will to do wrong, wrong will be done.". Forget who said that, but it speaks volumes about the current situation. There is no definitive way to stop piracy, but limiting possibilities is definitely not the way to do it.

In conclusion: SOPA and PIPA are trying to do good but are doing it the wrong way. Find another way to do it, Congress. Should keep them busy for another year or so.....

Yah a note, is has not passed yet so thats why there is still disagreement. The voting is January 24th if I am not mistaken (constant delays).

I feel as though we.......you know, The People :P should be allowed to vote and not let people who barely know what google is vote for us.

These bills open the door for corporations to abuse the system also... Very much so.

I think the best thing to do with the internet is just leave it and if something is on it that upsets you, you have about 3 choices......

I never used it because everybody I knew who used it would get viruses. Same thing for Megavideo.

I never trusted those sites anyways.
