JrMod app, coming out of retirement!
Minecraft username:
Real name (recommended): Dave Michener
Age: 36
Location: USA: FL
How long have you been playing on THIS server?: Since March, 2011
How often do you plan on being on THIS server?: Until the very end!
Name any JrMods, Mods, or Admins who would vouch for you: Paxination
Why do you deserve JrMod status? What sets you apart from the other players and would make you a good part of the staff?: I've been a good player since joining, and have been a previous Oasis SMP Staff member for 2 years (2012-2014) Not to say I was all perfect, I've been reprimanded a couple of times for bending a rule, and for being a little too quick to judge a rulebreaker, and being too heavy-handed when dealing out punishment. The latter is actually what makes me (in)famous, and a good staff member. I am a quiet person in-game, and IRL, that tends to put some people off that I'm kind of odd, but it doesn't mean I'm not friendly, or helpful. I do what I can when players ask for help, I've run shops both in the main admin shop area, and my current one near the desert portal for player's conveniance. I plan on building a town when 1.8 drops, so I will be able to provide plots for players to build homes.
After a long break, I feel like I can be a better staff member than before, especially on the overnight hours, now that I'm back on a night shift position. I will be putting FTB on hiatus as well, if I am allowed to re-join SMP staff. So let's have the swift hand of justice back on duty!

Didn't ever know you too well, but you did a great job as a staff member before and I was surprised when you left. Anyways, I vouch.

Re: JrMod app, coming out of retirement!
I'm going to be quite blunt and completely honest here, as I assume that's what you'd like from critique. This is only meant to help you and I mean no offence at all, so I apologise if it comes off that way.
I'm going to paint a picture for our new players. Imagine an Oasis with no protection, no logs, no plugins. No protection on the spawn, very few staff online and no everyday commands like /home, /tpa, /kit or even /spawn. This was 1.1 vanilla map, a temporary one we set up to allow players to play on Oasis while we waited for Bukkit to update. Many players disliked the temp map, due to the abundance of griefers, people using macro mods to spam swastikas and a general lack of staff due to them fleeing to single player along with most players who didn't like vanilla.
Among this chaos and anarchy there is a hero, a saviour, a Mich. I cannot emphasise enough how impressive and admirable he were that map. David spent hours patrolling spawn taking screenshots of spammers, griefers and thieves before uploading them all to the forums. Dixikid and myself wanted to promote David there and then. We did so 1-2 months later.
David, you continued to be an incredibly dedicated staff who constantly spent hours upon days following, warning and banning players. You are the only staff who I've seen match Lina's activity and commitment to staff, and that is saying a huge amount. You were the swift law and justice of this server and a role model to every staff wannabe and most of the staff themselves.
However, here's the bit that's tough to write. Things did go downhill. Your dedication to keeping Oasis clean from crime turned into a full on purge that left a wake of fear and anger. I saw you yell at players, long time players, for the tiniest of things and the simplest of jokes. Players were scared to talk when you joined; I saw you harass players for sending private messages you shouldn't have even been reading. I think I've only see you approve one ban appeal, not giving out any other second chances no matter how sincere or apologetic players were.
Even now, as a non-staff member, you were yelling at a guest for griefing and telling staff to ban them. Not only does staff dislike being told how to do their job (Which I'm sure you found irksome when you were staff), but we can't talk to players civilly when there's another player saying "Permaban them" and "Ignorance is no excuse!" after they just bought Minecraft that morning.
I don't know why you changed or when it even happened. You were one of the best staff this server has ever had, gaining my upmost respect and admiration. My key principle as staff is to try and make people have fun. It's a game. No matter how many rules and ranks we cram into it, it's still a game and it's purpose is to provide joy and fun. I mostly ban players not to punish them, but to prevent them from disrupting everyone's fun, whether it be via griefing, harassment or spam. I help people have fun and that's what I see all the current staff doing. Unfortunately I can't say the same for you. Whether you meant to or not, you made the server terrified of you. People were actually leaving and waited until you left to log back in. That is not the atmosphere staff should be forming, that's the kind of atmosphere we've actually banned people for creating.
This isn't meant to be an attack on you at all, I just wanted to share my view and perspective on your time as staff and hope that it helps in some way. I would 100% vouch for the dedicated, fair and friendly David I had the pleasure to play besides in 1.1, but as it stands our principles as what staff should be clash quite hard.

Re: JrMod app, coming out of retirement!
I'm with luke and capt here, you were good. But it went all downhill and you became some sort of dictator. It started to look like you were a computer. Sometimes I doubted if you even were human.
Same with the PM I send you regarding your behaviour, I spoke for all staff. Didn't even mention force retiring you back then.
But you decided to go hissyfit on me and tell me that I should mind my own business and not even try to force demote you cause you will step to the owners with that PM. Even though they knew.
So. I'm giving you an answer on your app. One of your own.

Re: JrMod app, coming out of retirement!
I normally don't reply to things on the SMP forums, but I'm going to make an exception here.
When I still played here, I was always terrified to talk in chat or make any kind of joke when you were online. You were so unbelievably strict, and always in such a foul mood, it scared players off. Instead of making the game an enjoyable experience for players, it was more like "I wonder if today is the day that I'm getting banned from the server".
It made people scared to be online when you were. It got to a point where you were downright disrespectful to players on the forums, and in game.
You were great at what you did, but you just did it in the wrong way.

Re: JrMod app, coming out of retirement!
I would just like to say my vouch still stands. I've personally always respected David, even though he could make me a little nervous on occasion. Surely after seeing the responses in this thread, he will change his behaviour somewhat. Thats where my confidence lays.
Also, for the record, I remember David as queit, devoted and stern. Not necessarily strict or overbearing. As a mere member a year and a half ago, I had no fear or concern when you were online, except for a few isolated occasions (being shortly after I joined the server, not really having done multiplayer before).
Just saying, things may be getting somewhat over the top here.

Re: JrMod app, coming out of retirement!
Yeah, my intention was to be honest and try to give David some advice. I do think a few comments are a little over the too and aren't as constructive as they should be for JrMod advice. Please try to make sure it is advice/critique.
(Not saying these comments aren't, but I've see a lot of apps derail fast)

Re: JrMod app, coming out of retirement!
My vouch though I understand only the owners admins and even mods have the final say, my vouch stands firm. I was never scared of David (I respected him for what he does for this server and that is banning the people who disturbed it Knowingly breaking our rules destroying our things and being flat out jerk.), there was no reason for me to be scared because I followed the rules. I think the server needs a strict and strong unwavering hand on it because it makes all us other players really think twice before we do something stupid. Before we 'accidentally' type in: Fuck, shit, etc. On my end here was never any terror, there was no 'oh i better get off because david is here' if anything I loved how beautifully the players behaved because they didnt dare test David to see what they can get away with like how I know other players do with other admins and moderators.
Taccys information was so beautifully put, but i disagree on the last part, there was no need to fear because if you werent doing something wrong to begin with then what is there to fear?
***At the very least this is how i personally feel about this. So thank you for reading this and I hope i did not offend anyone or make someone feel attacked :/ ***
