In this thread I would like everyone to talk about one artist, song, or genre of music that has really impacted your life, so far as to even change it. I'd love for you to tell me who, after that you could tell me what effect they have on you and why you think that they have that effect on you.
For me, It would Kid Cudi. Kid Cudi has really impacted my life because I can understand where his lyrics come from, I also think that he's a lyrical genius. He's impacted me in the way that he's helped me get through tough times by making me feel as if someone understands what it's like, I guess.
His favorite songs of mine in order are prolly: "Soundtrack 2 My Life", "Heart of a Lion", "Up Up and Away", "Erase Me", "Day n Nite", "Marijuana", and finally "Pursuit of Happiness". I realize that, that is a long list, but it's my favorite list of his songs.
The reason for this thread is that I get irritated when people always say "Music is an important part of my life", and never explain themselves. So if it is for you, and you do enjoy music please explain in this thread.

Mine would have to be lone and flying lotus. These artists are both deep and mystifying. I'm not sure what genre lone is developing into. I'm not sure about flying lotus either. They both have very distinctive and beutiful sounds.
MY favorite songs from each artist:
Lone - Aquamarine
Lone's music is often a source of pure happiness and desire to hear more. That is why he's my fav.!
Flying Lotus - Massage Situation
If you recognized Flying Lotus's Massage Situation, It is often used in adult swim bumps.
(My favorite Channel BTW)
But, this remix of bibio's "all the flowers" is just amazing. The top rated comment is exactly where I would put this song.
This is Flying Lotus- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oUx6wGCekM
This is Lone- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jA7X8f6qLws
This is the Lone Remix of Bibio's "All the flowers" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lyuYWYAIRJ0
Skip to 2:53 in lone's remix. Thats when It gets good.
Thanks-

Re: (¯`·._.·[Music]·._.·´¯)
Personally, I listen to a lot of electronic music. Dubstep, drum and bass, which a lot of people hate, I know. Skrillex, deadmau5, Pendulum, Bar9, and the rest. However, I also like music that is in extreme contrast to that. My stress levels get high extremely easily, and there is never a time when I do not have tense muscles in my back. I don't like to call it classical music, because it's not Bach or Beethoven or whatever, it's contemporary. But this is one song, composed for a time lapse video of one of my favorite photographers: http://vimeo.com/24456787
It's different than any other piano piece I've heard, so it is really the only other song I listen to besides the formerly mentioned music. So don't call me "a fag" for liking it, it calms me down.
Another song that helps me is Exile Vilify, a song from the Portal 2 soundtrack. Whenever I have to do something I really don't want to, schoolwork for example, which for some reason I have a mental block against, I like to listen to it. Like how I always listen to Arctic Light when watching that video, I always listen to this song from a specific website: http://rain.nxe7.com/
The artwork is original by a redditor and blogger named Emma Cicierega. She made it for fun after playing Portal 2, a game which I enjoyed as well. The story behind the website inspires me as well. A college student was having motivational issues for his exams, and was feeling very depressed, and in his free time created this website with this song, picture, and the soundtrack from http://rainymood.com/ , a website which I like to listen to as well sometimes. After he created it, he thought it was not that great. A friend of his, or him, I'm not sure which, posted it on http://reddit.com/. After receiving floods of emails telling him how his website inspired him, the maker of it was able to pass his exams with flying colors.

Re: (¯`·._.·[Music]·._.·´¯)
Music is quite literally my life. I grew up playing piano and percussion from age 3, I was a huge bandie in high school, and now I'm a music major in college. I plan on making a go at playing with a major orchestra, assuming they're still around by the time I graduate.
As for what I listen to... obviously quite a bit of classical shit, but on the side I listen to a lot of Pendulum, deadmau5, and a good bit of shitty old arena rock from the 70's and 80's. It's my guilty pleasure. Van Halen, Winger, etc... can't get enough.

Well like Ariley, I'm also a music major. I've grown up around music all my life. I love all music, and will listen to anything at least once.
I play(ed) a number of instruments; Drums since age 4, I played trumpet briefly, Piano for about 5 years, Electric bass and Guitar since I was 14. I played Cello and violin for about 3 years (age 13-16). I even tackled the Tuba once, only to find out it's not really "my thing". As far as a favorite genre goes. I'd have to say Metalcore, mainly because I love rhythm and meaningful lyrics, while I also love hardcore and I love it when the beats drops so hard you lose consciousnesses. I don't really have a favorite band or song, because I can't choose.

Well, to start, Music has always been big to me.
For school, I play Clarinet, and used to play Alto Sax. I have played clarinet since 3rd grade, so that makes it 6-7 years now.
Our school just got back from a large music trip to Florida, which I have to say was quit amazing. But enough about my music, because quite frankly, I'm just an average player.
Favorite music genre: Rock, mostly classic
Favorite bands (In no particular order): Muse, Aerosmith, Linkin Park, Three Days Grace, Pendulum, Van Halen, Motley Crue, Boston, Foo Fighters, Guns N' Roses, ZZ Top, Pink Floyd, Metallica (the only heavy-ish band I'll listen to), ...and I can't think of the rest right now.
Probably one of the coolest songs I've head, and one of my all-time favorites: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2KC1P9s6-Q

Meaningful lyrics? I mean, deathcore is a subgenre of metalcore. Neither of those sound meaningful. Here's a direct quote from a song by a band called "Death among heroes:"
"I'M A LEAD FARMER MUTHAFUCKA!"
As you can see, it is very intelligent. Also, "when the beats drops so hard you lose consciousnessess?" besides the typos, what the hell do you mean by that? Are you talking about the drop in dubstep or something? Do literally lose consciousness? Do you listen to this music for the purpose of blacking out? I don't get it.
Listen, I'm not trying to pick apart your music, and I could have done this to anyone else who posted in this thread, but this was one of the posts that ruined this thread for me. I was excited to see that Wesley had started it, and was eager to make a response. I looked at Wesley's and saw that he had showed how music affected his life, and he did it wonderfully. Then I did too, I even shared some of my personal issues. Everyone else in this thread follows this format: "I played X instrument for X years, I like X Bands, X genres and X songs." That's not what Wesley was looking for when he started this thread. I'm sorry, but I just hoped more people would be willing to share more personal points in how music affects their life, like Wesley and I did.

I understand where your coming Saetan, and I'm not sure why I typo'd like that. And while yes those lyrics you listed aren't exactly meaningful, I'm sure you understand that there are other bands with intelligent lyrics. There was a band I used to listen to about 2 years ago that was a mix of techical metal and dubstep, I can't, for the life of me, remember their name, but when I read over the "beat drop" part of my post, that's who I think of now. Anyway not sure why I derped so hard with that post, I was running off of 2 hours sleep. But I hope you can at least understand a little of what I mean.

Re: (¯`·._.·[Music]·._.·´¯)
Here i go again and i'll explain a bit why i like the music i listen to so much =)
i have to say, you're right, Death- and Metalcore are cool, but i only like the sounds, the lyrics are about daying and stuff like that, nothing thta special i think.just my opinion, i like it because i'm a peaceful person and that's where my aggressione etc go, they get blasted away while listening to some harder music. That's why i like it, and there are some songs which have meaningful lyrivs, but that's not what i care about at all when i listen to metalcore.
To J-rock, i love the lyrics, i love the language and i love the sound.
My favourite is d-tecnolife by UVeRworld, it helped me to pvervome my past, and made me able to keep on going without giving up, just like the song days, you've been hurt by unspeakable saness and pain, but oyu shouldn't give up. i hlistened to this song so often that i#m be able to sing the japanese song =) One last thing, these music helped me really much, today i feel bad sometimes, of course, but lokk at me now, these weekend i particaipated at the german youth championship in Go, i got the 2. place, so i'm on of the best junior players in germany now.
it's not everythign because of the music, but it made me way stronger in different ways.
That's a part of my story, i hope it's good enough ^.^

Re: (¯`·._.·[Music]·._.·´¯)
I can see that music has impacted so many people's lives, I'd like to say that about me but I guess it hasn't much. My parents raised me good, I like to think because I listened to a lot of classic music in their car (not classical, classic. I do however enjoy a good symphony every now and then.) My mother, she grew up with 80's music. I think that's where I get an undieing passion for 80's pop music. My father, grew up in the 70's-80's and I guess that's where I like some of the more classic music from. I like bands such as Led Zepplin, ACDC, G 'n R, Aerosmith... But, I also like some 80's pop artists like Duran Duran, Aha, and the works. I also am a HUGE fan of Iron Maiden.. Wearing an Iron Maiden shirt and listening to Iron Maiden while typeing this... ironicly. I have EVERY SINGLE SONG on my ipod on shuffle to. Like I said, a HUGE fan. I like all sorts of Genres, like everything besides rap and today's pop. Rap just seems like a whole bunch of posers to me. Pop from today absolutly makes every 80's pop artist look amazing, however they are doomed to be in the same genre. I also like Metallica's early stuff and tons of Megadeth.

ow music! i couldn't do without it.
i can listen to every kind of music to be honest, as long as it has a good melody and good lyrics. Ke$ha or Lady GaGa is not music btw. i detest the top 40 music or that crappy MTV shit that they dare to call music.
okay, but for the music that i do like, here are a couple of names.
Brant Bjork for the Desert Rock part of my music taste
JJ Cale for my oldskool Blues taste
Johnny Cash ofcource
but i'm also a fanatic Dubhead / Drum 'n Bass addict so here's a little Flux Pavilion for you guys :) Enjoy!
