[PSA] Players - Please read!!

Hey everyone.

I hate making these kinds of posts but from what Pax and myself have seen on the server lately I have no choice.
There are some issues on the server that are going to stop right here and right now. (Pax posted earlier but it seems nobody actually listened to his words. So now I'll say what I have to say.)

Please read this whole post. I will NOT give a short version or TL;DR.

If you have questions pertaining to this post you are more than welcome to ask them here. If it is a joke question, I will delete your post without warning.

One is the disrespect of the wonderful staff who VOLUNTEER their time to help all of you. What I have seen on the forums and in-game is NOT, I repeat, NOT, going to happen anymore. WE know the rules. WE do not need you to repeat them to us. WE do not need you to call us names and disrespect us and flat out ignore the staff when you don't get your way. Just because you don't get what you want does not, I repeat, DOES NOT give you the right to bitch and moan and complain and spam and do whatever it is you do to try and get your way. It is NOT happening here. I am tired of the players not taking myself and my staff seriously.

Speaking of my staff - they are an awesome team of people to work with. They all deserve your respect - including the Helpers and SrMods. These ranks, while new, are NOT filler ranks. Helper is not "Jr JrMod". SrMod is NOT "admin without console". Please get rid of these misconceptions immediately. The staff as a whole work their BUTTS off to keep this amazing server alive. And we need everybody INCLUDING THE COMMUNITY to help keep Oasis going for years to come.

With this being said, all players need to conduct themselves in accordance with our rules or you will be banned. It's that simple. If you feel your ban was truely unjust then you are by all means allowed to appeal your ban.

Furthermore - I do not care if you guys think my staff are "ban hungry". I know they are NOT ban hungry. They are trying to do their job, and when players ignore the staff we have zero choice but to take action. This usually results in a ban (temp, perm, or IP). The staff have been trained to use their individual discretion for each situation they encounter, and I fully trust them to use their experience and moderate accordingly. This applies to MC, the Forums, and Teamspeak.

Now for the elephant in the room. The staff here are not your parents. We do NOT need to take any of your backtalk or sass!! The staff are well-trained people who GIVE their countless HOURS to this server. They are not paid. They are not on shifts. They join, moderate, and log off as they see fit. If it wasn't for them then the server would not be where it is today. When a staff member says stop, you STOP. End of story. I am not going to put it any other way.

What I said above applies to the ENTIRE OASIS MC NETWORK!! Teamspeak is part of the network as well. YOU will conduct yourself in TS accordingly or you will be banned. This includes changing your name to an offensive name, disrespecting staff members, harrassing players, etc. You will follow the rules. We really don't like it when players argue  with us. Especially over the rules.

Again I must iterate that I absolutely despise making these kinds of posts. However the behavior and antics and flat out BS I have seen on my server for the past couple of weeks needs to stop ASAP.

I understand I will upset a LOT of players by making this post. Deal with it.

Please understand that this server and her community is made up of people from all around the world. The staff are from across the globe. They span multiple timezones and help keep Oasis running smooth. However we cannot do our job easily unless the community and players help us out by following the rules.

Could you explain SrMod, because I was viewing them as another form of Admin (based on the descript from promos). Like, are they still eligible for Admin? Is it like a half-step between mod and admin? I respect staff ranks all the same, I'm just curious about this.

I understand helper, but if you could give a more indepth explanation (than was already supplied) for both of the new ranks and their functions/purposes it might clear some things up for the people who are still confused.

A side note, the new Helpers and JrMods are doing a great job, thank you all

SrMod is indeed a step between Mod and Admin, and they are 100% eligible for Admin rank. The rank was created as a sort of "head mod" rank, granted to Mods who not only have been part of Staff for some time, but also show exceptional skills with plugins, player interactions, staff discussions and projects, just to name a few. Think of SrMod as the staff equivalent of the new Veteran rank. There is an increase in responsibility, a big jump in respect from the community, and additional flexibility to help out the players without being restricted by plugin permissions.

Helper rank is the NEW STAFF TEST rank. We know that Guide/JrMod was the test rank of the past, but it has always been a "heywelcometostaffhere'sallthecommandsyouneedtoknowokaycoolgotthat? noyoudontbutgohavefun!" and it's very overwhelming especially for new staff who need a little bit of coaching and some hand-holding. We created Helper rank to bridge that gap and to give them time, proper guidance, and some staff responsibility all without trying to overload them from the get-go. This is why they have VERY limited access to commands.

This may just be me (and Im not trying to start a debate here, just give a little feedback) but I think these staff ranks may be over-complicating things a bit. There are now 3 mod ranks, admin, owner and helper. I understand the benefit behind an organized hierarchical system but it seems like too much at this point. I get it, the server is always growing so it warrants more staff, but making more staff ranks almost cheapens being staff. Is it any surprise when the lower ranks on the totem pole lose respect when there are so many people out there that are percieved as more important? With SO MANY DIFFERENT staff members, why would a new player feel inclined to appease the little guys?

Its great that these things have evolved with the times but I think it's become somewhat convoluted. Tweaking things a bit may go a long way to solving this disrespect problem.

(and given that both owners have had to make an announcement about it, I would say that it IS in fact a problem)
