Ban Thread

At least once a day I try to log onto Oasis, but even if I can't I like to check the forums. I get really .... upset at seeing our new topics scroll being flooded with bans. Not only does it make me feel like the human condition is depleting to a group of raging 12s but is it really what we want our new members to see is nothing but a wall of bans and a legit thread or two? Now I'm not saying bans are un-necessary, but do they have to be part of the Latest Topics? Ok I'm done. This was just the third day in a row that I logged on to see at least 8 new bans to greet my morning. :/

I think it is a shame that we ban so often, but I'd rather see 20 bans a day then have to put up with the little shits on the server.

Also, I think one of the greatest qualities oasis has is its openness with bans. I've seen other servers where all bans are made without a public post, and generally that creates more shitstorms. I think having a public database for bans is a necessary evil.

I see what you are saying Cupcake, but I think its a good thing that new members see the ban threads. It shows them that we mean business, and you will be banned if you break a rule.

Guys you have to see the big picture, with the 8 or so people we ban a day there is triple that coming on the server, its a large number of people, in the thousands. Most come to the server first then find the forums to apply for member, by the time they get to the forums they are ready to fill out a member app and could careless about the wall of bans. The bans on the current topic list lets every grief team and everyone else who wants to mess with this server know they are going to be met with a highly active and effective staff.

I think it is a good idea to have all the bans there because, like Zeira said, it shows them that we don't tolerate people breaking the rules.  On some of the larger servers, they are banning hundreds a day.

Ban threads were originally my suggestion waaaaay back in.. June 2011. Anyways, the reasons I saw them to be fit were greater than the spamming of the forums. Thing is, people use to appeal all the time asking 'why was I banned omg unban me' and all, and with the 10+ people that we can get up to banning daily, it's really hard to keep track of them and give them a fair chance at an appeal. We hardly used to know who these people were or what they'd done, even if we were the ones who banned them personally, so you can imagine that saying 'I banned you for a good reason, I just don't remember why' was a pretty shitty way to start as a response to an appeal and normally all appeals would get either accepted or denied for shitty reasons which could be solved by publicly logging the ban on here for everyone to see. It revolutionized the efficiency of banning and appeals were accepted for much better reasons since we added this.

I get that it spams you, but there's also a really great way around this too!

There's a button you can press that will show you the posts since your last visit so you don't even have to rely on the Latest Topics slider!

That way you don't even need that latest topics thing anymore and you'll never miss a post!

I've always done that, but it doesn't seem to work now. When i press it, it says there's no new topics, but i clearly see new topics in the Latest Topics.

touche everyone touche...... It was a bad day topped by logging on to nothing but notices of stupid people being stupid and it got to me. I know and completely understand that bans are very necessary, I just hate seeing that so many can't follow the rules.

Was just going through the forums cause I'm bored, but I do sort of agree, while I do think that we should show all the bans, I agree they shouldn't flood the new topics sections, but people seeing all the bans should give them some incentive not to be little asses.
