Some death messages say that the person was killed by "Magic" which basically means potion. I don't know if it always does, so hope for the best!

If i am not mistaken, it is impossible to kill someone with poison, as it only takes you down to half a heart. And george, some advice: always carry milk on you in pvp from now on.
