Quick question.

I am unsure of what an "IP ban" is, and I can't stop myself from wondering. Someone care to explain it?

It's when you ban someone's IP, so any accounts from that IP will be banned. Hope this makes sense.

IP is the internet equivalent of an address. All information through your hub or router for most cases goes through this address. When an IP is banned all accounts through that address is blocked preventing alternate mc accounts from logging on.

Real life analogy: Think of a ban like a restraining order. You can't come anywhere near a certain person (or, in this analogy, server). However, put on a clever enough mask and you won't be recognizable (an alt account). An IP ban is the equivalent of a house arrest- you're not allowed to leave your house to enter the server, because the police are watching your specific address for when you leave. 

Of course, that's not to say you can't tunnel into your neighbor's house and leave from there ;)
