According to your profile you are 13, you may have been 12 at the time this happend. I've never ever heard of a gym allowing persons under 18 or even under 16.
Second, your ribs are quite flexible and are made to resist a lot of weight / power. They protect your vital organs so they don't break under lightweight. They need some serious amount of power or weight to "make 'em break".
If you benchpress above your ribs, you are in a wrong position. Benchpressing is done at shoulderheight.

It takes upwards of 150 lbs per square inch to break a rib, if he was holding it the wrong way and was pressing 150 lbs or a little under he could have cracked or broken a rib. js, person of science here. (And people have their own bench pressing units at home)

And they make take impacts but what apple said is true, they break under a lot of pressure and weightKrazo wrote:matthewdiamond12 wrote:i was bench pressing and i lost control and broke 4 ribs and almost died

For some reason, teenage boys think they all have to start lifting, which is pretty stupid imo. Unless you do football or something, there's not much point (It doesn't really 'keep you in shape').
Take time to recover, and use some of that bedrest to enjoy Oasis ;)

Boy is that right, my lil bro 13 yrs old has been all upset about his weight since he was in 7th grade(he will be a freshman this year) he thinks he's fat (he's a stick) and thinks by lifting weight he will loose weight -3- he's gonna break his face with all the weight he tries to use and his eating disorder isnt helping.mickdude2 wrote:For some reason, teenage boys think they all have to start lifting, which is pretty stupid imo. Though i disagree with the keeping in shape, exercise makes a difference but only if your eating right as well and i dont mean the bird eater diet where you hardly eat anything tasty so you can loose weight. I donno about having to have muscles but having a tone body is nice ;) haha **Im no doctor or weight lifting book XD so this is just an opinion!**

-shrugs- I still read your name as Mike .__. i dunno why Q~Q
Actually, weight lifting replaces fat with muscle, and because muscle is more dense than fat, you actually put on weight rather than lose it. Untoned muscles look like fat, which is why football players all look chunky. It's actually all muscle. Most football players are classed as 'obese' because the current system doesn't take into account muscle mass (this is all stuff I picked up from my football friends). The body builders you see don't actually have much muscle, its all tone.
Sorry for the off topic. The main point I'm trying to say here is that lifting isn't all that important, especially if you're 12/13

Re: Sorry if im inactive :/
If a weight falls on a person, thats not the only force they would be taking on their body, keep in mind. Velocity may play a part, as well as the pressure of having what is essentially a board unserneath you, effectively sandwhiching the person. Just putting it out there.
All forensics aside, glad to have you back champ. Enjoy yourself, now you get an excuse to sit around and do nothing (not that anyone needs an excuse, really).

Re: Sorry if im inactive :/
Mick, this is literally what Broscience means. You can not back your claims with facts or sources, even if you made those up too.
Fat is excess energy/calories stored in your body. Muscle tone is not what you think it is.
>This is obese
>This is not
Obesity as in Wikipedia: "Obesity is a medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it may have a negative effect on health, leading to reduced life expectancy and/or increased health problems.[1][2] People are considered obese when their body mass index (BMI),[3] a measurement obtained by dividing a person's weight by the square of the person's height, exceeds 30 kg/m2."
And lifting is important if he has plans to go into sports as a professional career. D.Klokov started lifting at a very young age and he started winning competitions when he was 14.
As to FF:"bird eater diet" oh no you didn't. You can not just insult the best source of lean protein there is just like that... And chicken is the shit. You can do everything with chicken breast and some imagination.
Last time I saw so much broscience and misinformation was when I visited BB.com, so please, again refrain from giving opinions on matter that you have no knowledge about and your only reliable source is "your friend".
brb, gonna get high on Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Protein™ Optimum Nutrition Pure Creatine while eating my boiled chicken breast. I'm out.

Didn't look at this thread when it was posted, thought I'd check it out when it was still on the "posts since last visit". Gotta say, pleasantly surprised. This is thread derailment at a high level. Good job lads.

Re: Sorry if im inactive :/
-In response to Vitality part 1: By bird eater diet i mean where you basically dont eat and work out thinking your loosing weight when in reality your gaining muscles and it makes that number on the scale go up then translating that to 'im fat' like my retarded brother.
-Part 2: i sincerely hope you werent referring to me when you spoke of not knowing what im-were-etc talking about with the muscles and weights and blah blah all that working out stuff.
- In response to Mick: Bodybuilding IS building/developing muscles its lifting weights, its not just 'toning out your body.'
