Mojang servers are down

If anyone is having trouble logging into Oasis, it's because MOJANG's servers are down.  According to https://help.mojang.com

Yea, I am still having trouble logging in. For some reason Mojang is having trouble, at least these last two days, keeping their servers up. Unless they are doing some sort of maintenance. Who knows.

;_; ruining my weekend. Mom made me go to church for the first time in like 5 years, and mc was working fine... and now I'm finally home and I can't get on ;~;

I guess I'll go play maplestory today again until servers come back up... This sucks I can't even play much today unless I find the energy for an all-nighter... I'm taking a train back to my dorm in a few hours...

Have they released any reasons? Maintenance? Let's just hope that they aren't getting DDOSed or something. That would suck. Guess I'll try to do some homework or something while I wait.

I saw something about DDosing in the rules, but I actually never knew what that is.  Can anyone explain?

UPDATE: Currently, all those services are up except the authentification service

To answer your question, Ben, i believe DDOSing is when a server of some sort, whether its minecraft or not, is getting overwhelmed by information input of some sort. At least, thats what i remember from one time i was online when Oasis was getting DDOSed. From what i recall, it is, indeed, illegal. However i doubt thats what is currently happening to mojang right now. I only say this because, as is mentioned above, alot of their services are back up.

Notice, however, that at the moment all my attempted logins have resulted in "bad logins", so im not sure if thats just me or if thats happening to everyone

A large-scale, professionally executed Distributed Denial Of Service attack costs thousands of dollars, and would not be done without a reason. I can't imagine a strong financial motive for anyone to attack the mojang servers, unless some MC ripoff company is trying to boost sales?  

Small-scale amateur DDoS attacks would not have any impact on MOJANG. Even Oasis-SMP has been hit by some amateur DDoS attacks and it stayed online the whole time. I've read stories about some of those large, high-profit MC servers in Brazil hiring private firms for DDoS attacks and DDoS protection, but that doesn't have any effect on Oasis-SMP.
