Re: JrMod app, coming out of retirement!
Please don't anyone think your posts are over the top. I've learned to let alot of stuff go, I don't take any of them as offensive. Vouching has never been something I've paid much attention to, it's basically just an opinion, we all have them. The staff has posted a good deal of constructive criticism, especially Taccy, I've known him on the server since I started playing, he's always been a straight shooter, doesn't hold back, and I value his opinion on stuff greatly.
Yes, I am stricter than most other staff, and way back in 2012 we did have alot of issues with some really nasty, vile guests, and we were raided a few times, and looking back I feel that my attitude, and my style of staffing was shaped by my first year on staff. As time went on, the server changed, our members got younger, and more rambunctious, and the more restrained, mature players stopped playing due to whatever reason they had.
One of the difficulties I've had with alot of our current members is the line between serious, and kidding around is very thin/hard to see at times. if some people have felt genuinely scared by my presence, I sincerely apologize, I am not a scary guy, I don't purposly go online to seek out and intimidate players. Also, kids are different nowadays, entertainment media has conditioned alot of them to the point that anything, and everything either scares the hell out of them, makes them have fits of rage, or cry their eyes out if things don't go the way they want them to.
I've also responded unfairly to the other staff a few times, that is true. I can be a real hot head when I'm doing something, and I misinterpret someone trying to help me, as something bad. I've dealt with alot of micromanagement in my career, that might have played a role in it, I don't know.
To reiterate, I'm not a bad guy, I get stressed out & frustrated like everyone else. In the months since I retired, I've missed being on the Oasis SMP staff, but I did retire because I felt it was necessary to do, before I really said, or did something truely horrible.
The server has changed, and I feel that I can roll with it. If you guys still think I should stay retired, that's cool. I don't hate anyone on the server, and I will not think any less of you. If you wanna vouch me until your fingers are sore from typing, that'd be cool too, and I thank all you guys who have vouched already.

Re: JrMod app, coming out of retirement!
I haven't been playing too long here, but I've certainly never felt scared of David at all. I'm in complete support of strict keeping of the rules, especially at a time like this with 1.8 around the corner and Minecraft bigger than ever. Since you retired I've noticed you've been much more relaxed and friendly, engaging more in the chat and stuff. My vouch remains.
Re: JrMod app, coming out of retirement!
Most of you against bringing david out of retirement make a few good points but we need staff who enforce the rules in the style he did. Guest knew they were screwed when david confronted them and havnt done dumb stuff again if they didnt get banned. And he makes a good point in his latest reply, oasis is getting kids younger and younger daily and they need to learn to be like adults and not break rules and when he was staff they didnt get a "time out" or a "slap" but got a strict warning. Even though he has had a few outburst and some anger issues I never had many issues with david and always respected him as a staff member and a friend so with that said i got a few more words to say (and they will always stand firm)

Re: JrMod app, coming out of retirement!
I'm honestly still trying to collect my ideas together as I don't know if I want to vouch or not. I won't say this is a vouch or criticism, rather an expression of what I am thinking when I see that you are applying for JrMod. Again, this is not to vouch, criticize, but an expression of opinion.
I would like to say that I was never scared so bad I would log off and wait for you to log off, as Taccy has stated. However I would like to say, I was scared to express opinion of any kind, and I freaked out and my mind and every topic I was going to talk about changed dramatically when you joined. I was scared of a really fierce debate or being yelled at or banned for talking in a certain manner. Especially when I saw some threads where you exposed private messages using them as evidence of disrespect. Reviewing some of these, it appears the people banned used /msg as nothing but a way to express their opinion of you. While it might be said they said harsh words in public chat, people use private messaging for a reason. It is either congesting chat or it is meant to be private, not put on a forum for everyone to see. It's also used by people who don't know staff can see msgs and advertise their servers or break rules by harassing or stalking people. This is defendable, as well as if someone did something to indirectly attack you, for instance /msg jandavey "Look Davidmich you blablabla [insert meaningless 4 year old vocabulary]" this is something I would not hold against you for posting. As strange as it feels for me to say this, I disagree with Taccy who stated you shouldn't have read those messages. Because when I look at how staff can see messages through screenshots it's kind of hard not to look at them. To explain, if a long sentence was written and there was simply "/r" at the beginning it's difficult to differentiate public chat and messaging. If I am wrong, you can correct me, if there's some filters or however it works.
Transitioning to you as a staff member banning people. I think your way of banning griefers was very efficient, and quick. The reason I say this is because when some griefer griefed, you're there quickly and you ask why are they griefing, and if they don't reply after well, quite a long time, you ban them. And if they provided really poor reasoning, you would play along until they were banned. Also, like Taccy said, it's hard to speak civil when other players are asking to permaban them, you would speak to those people and tell them you can handle it. Although, your temper and what happens when someone gets you mad and the inefficient, publicized, wild arguments in public chat scares a lot of people into thinking you are mad all the time. I hear that you are mad all the time, and I don't think that's the truth, just that being in a authoritative position and hearing disrespect feels unusual. If you need to have some type of argument, at least try not to make it so that everyone sees and feels the obligation to stay quiet. I see staff having small arguments and people would make a small comment here (the messages that circulate really)but keep talking like nothing's happening. I agree with Taccy that you got mad at people for making jokes that were not hurting anyone.
Moving onto another point, I would like to say that is constructive criticism is that everything scares us younger members due to social media. I'm not scared of everything on social media, I think it's that when authority figures come into play and people think they are hostile, they won't openly do anything remotely friendly. We all act different around people we presume as hostile, and especially hostile authority figures such as teachers, so we behave like we are under that type of pressure. I see this in my classes last year. I had one English honors teacher who didn't care what her class was doing, she just played card games with students in the back of the room while everyone else did whatever. Guess what? A fight incident occurred, yelling and name calling became common, and many other unspeakable terrors. The Common Core Math class next door? The math class next door had a harsh teacher. Anyone who so much as spoke out was given a whole page of questions and at the end, something stating the student did something wrong and they'll need a parent signature. I see and hear students complain and complain, and when I do spy on that class, what happens? Nothing. Even the wild, crazy, obnoxious kids who don't even want to be there are quiet and not doing anything disruptive.
In conclusion, You had some positives and negatives as far as being a staff member, I don't know what being a staff member is like, so I can't judge completely. While griefers will get put to death by banhammer if you become staff again due to your activity, the questions are, have you changed? If you become JrMod again, will people still feel like they're in a hospitable environment? As well as how will you handle the younger people of Oasis?

Re: JrMod app, coming out of retirement!
VOUCH
David has certainly earned another chance. He does seem to be more relaxed lately and he's a lot more friendly to people. If he becomes staff, I'd like to see him being more lenient than before, especially with regards to those "gray areas" of the rules. He says that he's ready and that's good enough for me.
With regards to the negatives:
From the time I joined Oasis, David got progressively more rigid with enforcing the rules. There was a time when David logging-in would cause a huge tension for everyone. People would log off and the tone of chat would become somber. Those were not fun times and I don't want to experience that again. It seemed to me that David was burning out. It was probably just as stressful for him as it was for the players.
To David:
I think that you deserve another chance as staff. I want to see you being more lenient this time - both with new guests and older players. I want to see you being more relaxed and resilient to criticism - especially the absurdly invalid criticisms that all staff members have to deal with every day. I want you to remember that not every comment/question needs a response. Finally, I want to see you making good use of tempbans - they exist for a reason.

Re: JrMod app, coming out of retirement!
I for one vouch.
David has been on the server since I first joined and I'm pretty sure he was staff for all of the time, if not at least 95% that I have been here.
You have always been the 'strong arm of the law' and made rule breakers tremble with fear at first sight when seeing you. At times I will be honest, you may have been too harsh like many others have said, but I don't think you have ever been ridiculously harsh, at least not in the time I have been on server.
In my honest opinion you would be a good asset for the staffing team once again and I hope you succeed in this application :)

If I do manage to make a staff comeback, I may, or may not be using a Freddy Fazbear skin.

Bumping for December.
I've had no internet for the past week, and now it's spotty at best, so I'm not ignoring game time, just couldn't get on the server. I'm in it to win it!

Re: JrMod app, coming out of retirement!
I've never been one to complain about the server, however recent transgressions have straight up pissed me off.
I take a short break from my staff duties, yet continue to play, and be an active member of the server. I've been pulling for reinstatement for 3 months now, and yet another staffer takes a hiatus, comes back, reapplies for his position ON THE SAME DAY, and you give it right back to him after a few days. I know owners can change rules whenever they choose to, I guess promotions for inactive players is allowed now.
Either some folks really don't like to hurt feelings, or someone's too much of a chickenshit to tell me I'm not welcome on staff anymore. My sincere apologies if you're in the chickenshit group, and take offense.

Well David, as a non-staff member, all I can really say is that this seems rather unprofessional. Dont get me wrong, you have my full support, but I would expect that you, of all people, with years of staff experience, would be a bit more understanding of what goes into a staff member. Want my advice? Look to Q and Nos and see what it is that seperates you from them. Good luck bro, and I hope that you get that position soon. But above all, I hope you see this for what it is meant to be and not just a "Youre inadequate" speech.
And even if you dont, just goes to show Im no chickenshit.

Re: JrMod app, coming out of retirement!
Dave, as staff you've always done your job and did what you had to, to keep the server safe. And I will always be greatful for your hard work, and you'll always be welcome on the server. But the majority of the current staff feel that your ways/methods dont fit with the current staff's dynamics. We've talked about it many times. But I have to trust my staff's opinions, just as I trusted yours during your tenure.
The rules havent changed. But desparate times call for desparate measures to accomodate for them. With the update came a huge surge of players and something had to be done now. Dont forget, I joined first week of Oct, 2012, and was Guide by Nov promos. Activity never has been 100% part of the decision. It helps, but its not one of the deciding factors.

Re: JrMod app, coming out of retirement!
I wanted to say something here a while ago, but I held off.
I've been silent on this because I still can't decide on my vouch.
I'll start by saying I would have no problem staffing alongside you again.
But some would. And while I want to support you for the wonderful qualities I got to see and staff next to, I think about the rest of the team's opinions too. Especially since the team has changed quite a bit in the past year.
I will quote here what I wrote somewhere months ago to describe my thoughts.
I've been here two years, and I staffed alongside you for at least one of those. I looked up you, and still do. You where always dedicated, rarely ever went afk. After a year or more, I liked you, despite the strictness, and still do. I was shocked when you retired. You were the last person (at the time) that I would ever think to retire so suddenly.
I know there are others who really do not agree with me right now. I can't change how I feel about this though. I know some of you saw a not so friendly side of david, and that's all you can see, but there's another side there too and it's wonderful.
At this time, I'm undecided. But things change, just like they've changed in the past year. I can't give a definite yes or no right now, but I do want you to know it was a real honor to staff with you, and I look back on your dedication a lot. I appreciate the time you gave to the server, and all the good that came from it. I also love that you're still online.... I'm always sad when people retire and never log on... a lot of this I actually wished to tell you while you were still staff, but I could never find the right time or the right words.

Not going to lie, I honestly miss David. He isn't super open with people and yes, he took "strict" to a new level. But he's someone you can depend on to be active and enforce the rules. He has a sense of humor, though it isn't always apparent. His builds are damn beautiful, though he rarely lets anyone inside them. I fear David, and at the same time I admire David. I'm used to him being staff, and staffing next to him, it feels odd without him here.
However, some current staff aren't thrilled with the idea of him returning. It may be better to opt for someone who will fit and work well with our current staff team.
