I Need Advice Empty I Need Advice

Post by J8cob1 6/23/2012, 1:02 am

So I am thinking of taking up archery as new hobby, I have never done it before, but it sounds fun and like to try it. The problem is this, when I look for a bow, i find some that look good, in the 60-120 dollar range... Until I realize they are for 8-12 year olds T_T Does anyone know any good places to find a decent bow for beginners 16-17 years old?

I'm jealous! I went out with a friend into the mountains where they had an outdoor archery course. It was a ton of fun. I'd like to take up archery as a hobby as well, but I can't afford a bow atm and the cops don't like me shooting it off in my backyard.

As for where to start? I found some good sites with info while I was looking into it:

www.merlinarchery.co.uk

www.archeryforbeginners.com/

www.archeryworld.co.uk

Good luck man! And keep me updated on how it goes, including pics if you decide on one.

Well, I intend on self teaching myself the ways of shooting a bow, as well as using youtube. As for a bow, I may have found a good contender. All the bows I have looked at before were composite bows, so any good one would of course be pricey. I just found this bow though, its a recurve bow, a lot less expensive, and as opposed to the composite bows, I still pay less even though I need to buy an arrow rest ($25 via Dick's Sporting goods) and arrows (also $25 via Dick's sporting goods).

Here it is

Its a PSE Razorback Recurve bow, I am considering the 30 lb Draw Weight.

Seems like a sweet thing to do. Sadly:(, I know nothing of archery, I wont be able to tell you where to look for a bow.

Archery's pretty sweet. I actually have had a number of times to partake in Archery. One was in my trip to Muskoka Wood's Archery and another was my school's Archery club. I'm not going to lie, it was the coolest thing ever, but the Archery club's leader has a vendetta against me, so it wasn't the most pleasent experience.

Nevertheless it was awesome and I hope you have fun.

Bows are inherently bad-ass. I personally like the historic bows, but that's because I'm a nerd. I shot one at a historical reenactment, and it felt so great(my mom nearly had a heart attack). I loved every moment of it. It was a smaller bow, only 25 lb draw, but I managed to get 4 bulls-eyes and 3 that hit the target( out of 20 shots). I would definitely recommend archery to anyone.
