Do Aliens Exist?
Reccently, I was talking about aliens in-game.
Personally, I'm not too sure about whether they exist or not, but there are several videos and photos suggesting that they do. Most have been proved fake, but there is still some hard evidence.
Or maybe, humans are just too 'selfish' and want to believe that we are the only species EVER.
What do I think? I think this:

But what do you think?

Re: Do Aliens Exist?
One would have to be a fool to believe that humans are the only life form on any planet out of the entire universe.
Our planet is capable of sustaining life because we live in the "Goldy Locks" zone of our sun. That's the zone in which it's not too hot, nor too cold for life to exist.
The obviously HAS to be other planets within that zone of there sun somewhere out there.
Now intelligent life is a different story. How far along is evolution on said planet? That's the unknown.
Another point would be:
Humans are a carbon based life form, who's the say these aliens are even carbon based?
They may not need the things we need, such as oxygen.

Re: Do Aliens Exist?
Some of those were obviously faked. Others wre probably just dust or meteors reflecting light(or a glare on the camera). But thats not to say aliens don't exist.
If you take a glass and dip it in the ocean, and catch no fish, whats your conclusion? Thats theres no fish in the ocean? or that this is too small a sample? or are you wondering what youre going to do with the glass, because the ocean water is too salty to drink? And is the glass half full or half empty? or is the glass twice the size it needs to be?

True. You have no idea how hard it is to get a real picture of a mexican on Canadian Google. They're basically non-existant.

Re: Do Aliens Exist?
I believe the odds are too enormous, the sheer size of the universe, which may even be expanding at an unbelievable speed, tells me somewhere, extra-terrestrial life does exist. Will we ever come in contact with it? In my opinion, No. Does it resemble us or anything on Earth for that matter? No. This is a question that I believe will never be answered because the world will end later this year, jk, but still, the answer and proof will never present itself.

Re: Do Aliens Exist?
Just as Chaos already said
Just look at the Kepler space telescope. This satellite is looking at a patch of sky, the size of a adults' hand at arms length. It is monitoring 145.000+ stars and has found over 2326 exo-planets orbiting those stars (quoting wikipedia here). 207 of those are the size of earth and 680 are 1,5 times the size of our planet, the so called super-earths. just by the amount of planets found in such a small patch of sky is astonishing already, but if that is not enough, we have our lovely future destination: Kepler-20f. This super-earth sized planet is in the habitable zone of its parent star and has traces of oxygen and hydrogen in its atmosphere (quite the same as we have here).
So this is just from looking at a small piece of sky for 3 years. try to fill the entire sky with with puzzle pieces the size of your hand. you only have to multiply the amount of hands by the amount of planets found and you will know how many galactic neighbors we have. I would be more surprised if we, indeed, were the only intelligent species out there in the universe.
but we can go further that that. let's say Mars. They say that mars used to be like the Earth in its early days. There used to be water (and there is ice). Scientists think that there might be alien bacterial life under the surface. Look at Jupiter's moon Europa. it is one big ball of water ice. Under that ice there might be a vast ocean. Maybe with life. And to the more extreme, Saturn's moon, Titan. Titan has seas of liquid methane, an atmosphere and weather. There are places on earth where bacterial life can flourish without water or oxygen, so why not on Titan?
So yeah, i believe that there is an abundance of life in the universe. Have we been visited by any of them? Who knows, i would like to see it for myself, but yeah, i strongly believe that we are not alone in the big, cold, darkness.

Yes.
Space is for all we know never ending, and you would have to be a fool to think humans are the only life form.
Cool thing on discovery channel I saw about it was the theory that some where out there, there is an exact copy of you on another earth. But since its so far out if you were to go that far basicly you would turn into some sort of ball of energy.
Great discussion question btw.

Re: Do Aliens Exist?
1. Mars has already been shown to have had microbial life at some point, so the answer is unequivocally, YES.
2. According to Carl Sagan: Yes, but his "yes" was for life... not just intelligent life.
3. According Stephen Hawking: Yes, and if intelligent, we would NEVER want to meet any that came to Earth
4. The Fermi Paradox assumes "Yes" but stipulates that the chances of them making contact with us or us making contact with them in any way is to be almost impossible.

OK. I think that we have all come to the conclusion that aliens on any scale already exist.
But what about intelligent life?

Re: Do Aliens Exist?
I am not gonna say that aliens like the xenomorph alien exist, but of the millions of planets out there, another planet with some kinda of humanoid life is quite possible, as of the farthest we have made a human spacecraft is well... the moon.

I believe that that theory is that there is another earth in another universe, and that these 'multiverses' are stacked on top of each other(yes, I watched this show too). Also, they said, that every time anyone makes a decision, there is another universe created, meaning that there is a universe where i didn't post this, another where I don't play Oasis or even minecraft, and in yet another universe I don't exist.

Assuming they do exist... and there are more then 1 other "life" in the universe (which assuming they do exist is more then likely)
Then yes there will be other intelligent life, some will be more advance and others not... depends whereabouts they are (given the our solar system is young in comparison to others), also how they live and their "needs and greeds".
In terms of looks.. well chances are they will have opposable thumbs (so they can hold things and make stuff easier).
Also..
I am here, so yes they do exist

Thinking about aliens and existentialism seems pointless to me. I'd rather focus on what is and how we can improve it instead of what may be and how we think it can be.

so basically taking away theory?
if you don't know what it is - you don't know how to improve it - thus it is pointless. (your words)
<---- if we didn't do this it would mean we wouldn't be anywhere close to where we are today (in everything).Kevo235 wrote: what may be and how we think it can be.
If you only focus on stuff you knew and ways that thing could be improved, you wouldn't invent that many new things.. a lot of guess work and random stabs in the dark do a lot more for the understanding of pretty much everything.
With the whole "Do aliens exist" - well that depends on you as a person, if you deeply religious then chances are no you don't believe.. but if you have more of a scientist why of thinking the chances are yes.
For me personally with the fact the are 100 million or so galaxies (probably more), each containing many solar systems...and 10 - 15% are similar to our own... would entail a very high chance of there being other live..
Some people say "well if there was other live we would know by now" - that's a good point, though that's assuming they already know space travel (way way more advanced there are own). Also the chances of them "finding us" is quite slim (assuming that 10 - 15% is correct - means 10-15% of hitting the right solar system - then you have to find the right planet)....
The only realistic way of actually proving any other live is by either them coming to us or us going to them... both realistically requiring faster then light speed travel (which is meant to be impossible - though who knows)....
Who knows ...... either way would be nice to find out.
However I do know what your getting at Kevo. It is best to find out more about "us" and "our world" over thinking about something which may or may not exist.
Which is true to some point i guess, given that we are meant to only use 10% (or so) of our brains............ well you guys do.. i use 52% :P - cause i am special
Still, have to look at our past and how obsessed a lot of the ancient culture's were with the stars. barring in mind a lot of what we know about them is guess work.

Re: Do Aliens Exist?
nice links dude. however they are only particles and currently more of a proposed idea for the means of light speed. Also they will need to find a way of using them for the transport of other particles and objects, of which get heavier as they get faster and will effect the speed. also i said meant to be impossible hence the underline :). Bound to be possible at some point given that the term impossible seems to mean 'havent found away yet' these days. still nice links.BroadStreetBully wrote:dynamole wrote:The only realistic way of actually proving any other live is by either them coming to us or us going to them... both realistically requiring faster then light speed travel (which is meant to be impossible - though who knows)....
