The numbers!

Post by KittenIgnition on 3/5/2012, 4:10 am

If these numbers and values are available anywhere, I need to know some relatively in-depth things about Minecraft, namely the size of the player's hitbox.

I need to know how tall and wide (x and y values, if they differ, which they shouldn't) the player's hitbox is, and how tall the blocks are. I would also like to know roughly where on the player the camera is located: is it on the head? is it on the torso?

This is all for a project I'm hoping to start working on soon: making a map in Minecraft, then converting it to Quake 3 brush format. I'm running into problems with scaling, because the step-height in Quake 3 is a lot lower than it is in Minecraft, so stair blocks won't transfer very well (each stair block has 2 steps, which works fine in Minecraft, but even at the upper limit of Quake 3's step-height, 2 stairs would force each block to be really small). I want good scaling, but I don't want to abandon authenticity and make 3 steps instead of 2.

Anyway, all of these numbers would be really appreciated. I can't wait to start learning the code to get this converter up and running, and beta test the hell out of these maps. It's going to be really fun 8D

Each block is 1meter cubed.
A player model is 2 blocks tall and 1 block wide.
The hitbox for a player is slightly bigger than that, not sure on the exact measures of that.

Q3 units to real-world centimeter scales do exist, but I don't really feel like finding them. Do you know these measurements in game units? i.e. player is 56x32x32 units, etc.

I'm not sure what you mean by game units. Pixels?
If that's the case then each block face is 16x16. Meaning the block is 16 pixels cubed.
Making the player 32 pixels tall and 16 pixels wide.

It all depends on how big one unit is in Q3. this can differ between engines and 3D programs.
What i found is that 2 game units = 1 inch. Thus making 2 game units = 2.54 cm.

and Chaos is right about the height of the character in MC. he is 1 x 1 x 2 m

you could try it with these numbers. :)

I've always thought that the player was like 1.6 meters tall. Derp.

The sheep is almost the same height as the player, the sheep is giant or the player is tiny.

The y is always .64 (Or something similar), so that makes sense.
