Ermergurd! I miss you guys!

So old my laptop is pretty much caput and the laptop I just got is having some issues with the operating system, and drivers....or both...or neither...im still working on it. Anyway ive really missed interacting with you all and hopefully I will have everything up and running soon. *crosses fingers*

It seems to be working ok now, but ive been unable to install java on it...it just wont work. Grrr.
Also im still not sure if its 100% fixed yet.....I may have to downgrade to windows 7 or do a fresh install of windows 8. So far when I am able to use the laptop (I am right now) its pretty awesome. I just want to make sure its at 100% or im sending it back for an exchange or refund. I guess this is what I get for buying a refurbished laptop. >.<

Any of you smart people know what this error is exactly, and how to fix it? I sorta fixed it...more like put a bandage on it.

I honestly forget the actual reason for what causes ^^^ that message but the cause is rare. I wouldn't worry about it unless you continuously keep getting that message.

Anyways to install java for windows 8, you need to make sure you are using Java 64bit. I don't think windows 8 has 32-bit java available. You can get it here. Click on the link and then once you get in, click on the "Windows Offline (64 bit)" link to download the Java installer to your computer. Then run the installer, making sure to NOT install anything else that it wants you to (McAfee scanner, AVG toolbar, ASK toolbar, things like that). Just uncheck anything that's not Java-related, and you should be good to go.

I was getting it continuously..I couldn't restart the computer without it hanging up. The only way I found to keep it from happening is to tell the computer to not sleep. Which is a bandage, so hopefully an IT guy at the college I work at can give this thing a look over on Monday. Then ill know If I need to get it exchanged....just have to keep it perfectly unscratched until then. >.<


Ive been doing that with Java....but after I give permission to install it just sits there forever and never has any progress on the progress bar.

There is more to the error. The rest of the info will be something like 0x00000097. That entire number and any others it gives similar to that will actually tell us more about the error.

It turned out to be something that was not easily fixable....So I packed the screwy thing up and sent it back. Now im just sitting here hopeing that they accept the return and dont try to screw me.

Any suggestions on a laptop in the $700 to $970 range?

If you're looking for laptops a good place to start is http://www.newegg.com/ they have a nice advanced search if you're looking for a specific type of item. They have lots of choices but their prices might not be the best so after you find a laptop on there you might wanna try searching for that specific model and compare prices. 

     Now if I had to recommend a laptop I would try the Acer V5-552PG-X809 all in all a nice laptop but not the most powerful a plus is that it is touch screen.  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834314182 

     The 2nd laptop I recommend is the Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 it is priced higher than the Acer but it has a slightly faster CPU less RAM and doesn't include a touch screen, it would most likely play MineCraft better with the faster CPU.

Im actually in the process of returning a y500 right now....Long story. Kinda staying away from that Lenovo model for now. 

Ill have to give the Acer a look, i havent really looked into that brand much. Ive been looking at Toshiba ans Samsung a bit though. I may wait till after the first of the year to buy anything so that maybe new models will come out and some prices will drop. Maybe.
