I. Introduction

First off, Welcome to Oasis! You've probably gotten to this page through /warp howtobasics, and now you want to learn something, or may just want to know a bit more about Oasis.
Oasis began when a guy called Ariley opened a minecraft server in 2011. Since then, Oasis has become a large friendly community of fun and joy! Oasis is still running strong and continuesly get new players. Some don't stay for long, while others do, and we hope that you will stay for a long time to come, and become a known face (or well... name) in the community!
Again, Welcome to Oasis!

II. Surviving Oasis and Minecraft in general

a. Choosing which area to play in
First off, you need to choose which biome (area) you want to play in. On Oasis we have portals at spawn that lead to different places. We have a plains portal (leads you to an area with grass and relatively flat grounds), a desert warp (leads you to an area with a lot of sand), a jungle portal (Leads you to a jungle with a lot of very tall trees) and a Canada portal (leads you to an area with a lot of snow and pine trees).

b. First things to do
Assuming you have found an area to play in, you now need to go find some wood. You will often find trees (except from in the desert area) that you can cut down by punching them with your hand. Once you've gotten wood, you need to make a workbench. Try typing '/recipe workbench'. An image of how to make a workbench now pops up. Open your inventory and place a piece of wood in the crafting area in order to get wooden planks. Use these to make a workbench. Once you have a workbench, place it on the ground and right click it. Here you can make larger items such as tools that you will need. Type '/recipe wood_pickaxe'. Make a wooden pickaxe following the instructions, and start digging downward until you hit some stone blocks. Use your wooden pickaxe to mine the stone. Once you have enough stone, you can type '/recipe furnace'. Make the furnace and right click it. Put some wooden planks in the bottom hole and some wood in the upper hole. The furnace will now make some charcoal for you, which you will need to make torches. Once you have the charcoal, type '/recipe torch'. You should now be able to survive on your own. You can check out the next two sections if you want a home and some food.

c. How to make a house
The easiest thing to do is simply to dig a hole in the ground, place some torches and cover the hole. However, if you think this is too primitive, you can make a wooden house, by following the instructions below
1. Dig a square in the ground. The larger the square, the larger the house.
2. Fill the square with wooden planks.
3. Make a wall around the edges of the square (something like 3 blocks tall should do).
4. Make a 2 block tall hole and place a door (type '/recipe wood_door' to see how to make a door). Make a few 1 block holes for windows.
5. Place a roof on top of the wall. This can either be done as simply a layer of wooden planks or as a slope of wood
6. Type '/sethome' inside the house, in order to save your home. Whenever you type '/home', you will get back to your house
Example of a house:

d. How to get food
A lot of players will probably like to know how to get their own food. The easiest thing is to make a farm with farmland where you can plant crops.
1. Make a bucket by typing '/recipe bucket'. You will need iron for this, which you can get by mining in the ground.
2. Dig a line in the ground, and use the bucket to move water from a lake or the ocean to the line.
3. Make a hoe by typing '/recipe stone_hoe'
4. Right click next to the line of water with the hoe, in order to make farmland
5. If you don't have any carrots or potatoes, you can destroy grass in order to get seeds. Right click the farmland with the seeds, in order to plant wheat
6. Once the wheat has grown and become yellow, you can harvest it.
7. Use the wheat to make bread by typing '/recipe bread'
Example of farm:
Click this to see image:

III. How to use /sethome, /lockette, shops and other commands

a. How to set a home
You can type '/sethome' in order to save a new home. Whenever you type '/home', you will get back to this area.

b. How to lock your chests and doors
You can lock a chest by placing a sign on it and type '[Private]' on the first line. Your name should now appear automaticly beneath it. Only you are able to open the chest now. You can do the same on a door, by placing a sign above the door and type [Private] on the first line.
You can add multiple names so that multiple people can open your chests and doors. Type '/lockette' in the chat and left click the chest or door. Type '/Lockette 3 [name]' in order to add a person’s name to the sign. For example: '/lockette 3 Fred'.
Example of a private sign:
Click this to see image:

c. How to use warps
On Oasis you can get to different locations by typing '/warp [location]'. For example, you can get to the public shopping area (shop world) by typing '/warp shop' in the chat. This is probably also how you got to the '/warp howtobasics' area. A lot of players have made towns and monuments with warps in order to let people enjoy their work. Ask if someone has got a town, and they might tell you the warp name of their town so that you can /warp to it.

d. How to use chest shops and money
You've probably already discovered the shop world. Here you can buy and sell items in exchange for coins. You can see how many coins you have at the moment by typing '/money'. You can walk around the shop world and find player made shops. Here they've placed chests with signs above them, looking like this:
Click this to see image:

The top line is the name of the player who made the shop. The second line is the amount you will buy/sell at a time. The third line is the price of the item. The left side with the B is the amount you will pay in order to buy the amount of that particular item. The right side with the S is the amount you will get if you sell the amount of that particular item. The fourth line is the item that the chest shop buys/sells.
When you've found a shop with a desired item at the right price, you can right click it in order to buy that item from the shop and left click in order to sell that item to the shop.

IV. Ranks on Oasis

a. List of ranks

1. Member: The first rank a player can get on Oasis. Can use '/kit ironkit'. Can be given out at any given time by a staff member, if the player has made a membership application.

2. Trusted: This rank is given to members who've showed that they're trustworthy, friendly and wants to be a part of the Oasis community. Can use '/kit waterkit' and '/kit lavakit'. This rank can be given out by a staff member at any given time.

3. Trusted+: This rank is given to trusted who've played a bit longer on Oasis and showed that they're helpful, friendly and very trustworthy and have become a familiar face on Oasis. Can use '/kit torch' and '/kit smooth'. This rank is only given out at 'Promos'.

4. Artisan: This rank is given to trusted and trusted+, who've shown great building skills and a possitive attitude. Can use '/kit wood', '/kit grass', '/kit glass' and '/kit sand'. This rank is only given out at 'Promos'.

5. Veteran: This rank is reserved for players who've played on Oasis a very long time. If a player shows that he is well deserving of this rank, players can vote on him for this rank. Can teleport to other players with '/tpa' and spawn items with '/item'. This rank is only given out at 'Promos'.

6. Architect: This rank is reserved for very gifted creative builders. Only very few will be considered for this rank, and you can't apply for it. Keep building awesome things, and this rank might be bestowed upon you. Can use creative. This rank is only given out at 'Promos'.

7. JrMod: First line of defense for the server. Primarily responsible for fixing greifs, banning players, and keeping the server under control. JrMods also have access to CoreProtect, our greifing rollback plugin, as well as full access to the TeamSpeak moderation commands. JrMods are also responsible for answering players' questions, and are generally very knowledgeable and can answer most questions. JrMod is the only staff rank that you may make an application. This rank is only given out at 'Promos'.

8. Mod: In addition to the responsibilities granted to JrMods, Mods are known for being able to promote players, set-up and remove warps, set up plots in Shop World, and use WorldEdit. Mods are also responsible for assisting the JrMods and to help players when needed. Our Moderators help keep the relationship alive between Staff and the Community by running server-wide events, such as PropHunt, Buildoff, PVP battles, and others. Mods are hand-picked by the Admins and Owners; one cannot simply apply for this rank. This rank is only given out at 'Promos'.

9. Admin: The role of the Admin is to ensure server stability from a technical perspective, and to assist players when needed. Admins are granted OP privileges and also granted remote desktop access (aka "console access"). They are allowed to manage the server and its plugins with more flexibility than the Mods. Admins are responsible for performing server restarts and plugin updates when needed. Admins also have the same responsibilities as Mods and JrMods, and are required to help out any player who asks for help. Admins are hand-picked by the Owners. This rank is only given out at 'Promos'.

10. Owner: This rank is reserved for the owners of Oasis aka. Madscientist032 and Paxination. They have access to everything on the server, including the donations account and the OasisSMP Twitter account.

11. Founder: This rank is reserved for the founders of Oasis aka. Ariley92 and Sainteven.

The last saturday of each month, many of the players and staff of Oasis gather near spawn for an event called 'The Promos'. Here certain players will get promoted, if they've earned it.

b. How to become a member
We have made a page on this forum with information on how to become a member. Follow the instructions Here

c. How to become Trusted, Trusted+ and Artisan
These ranks cannot be asked for. Doing so simply shows that you're not ready to get promoted. Just continue to be friendly and helpful on Oasis and try to enjoy playing here instead of being blinded by ranks. Positive attitude and trying to become a part of the community is highly rewarded when it comes to ranks.

d. How to become Veteran
In order to be considered for this rank, you need to make an application here on this forum. This can be done in the same way as making a member application in the Veteran application section and by using a different format, which can be found in the same section. Do not make a veteran application unless you've played for at least 6 months. Veteran applications made before that will simply get locked by the staff right away and show that you're not ready for a rank such as Veteran.

e. How to become an Architect
The architect rank can only be achieved by making very impressive creative builds on Oasis. Only very few people will be considered for this rank, and you should not ask for it.

f. How to become a staff member
Only people who've played for a very very long time on Oasis (over a year), and who've shown dedication and the will to make Oasis a fun place to be will be considered for this rank. If you believe you have the qualities of a staff member, you can make a JrMod application in the JrMod application section on the forum, the same way as the veteran application.

g. Donator ranks
It is possible to donate to the Oasis community, by clicking the 'Donate' button on the forum and following the instructions. Donators are rewarded with special perks, depending on the amount they donate, as a thanks for their contribution. The perks can be given out at any given time by a staff member, if a player has donated and the donation has been confirmed. The tiers are as follow:

5$: Access to '/kit waterkit', '/kit ironkit', '/kit goldkit', a teal colored name with [Donator] prefix. They also get the '/hat' command allowing them to use any block as a hat.

10$: Access to a custom [Prefix] (max 10 characters), '/kit lavakit' and '/kit diamondkit'.

20$: Access to teleporting using the '/tpa' and '/tpahere' command and a custom colored name, besides red.

$30: Access to '/god' which makes you invulnerable.

$50: Access to the '/item' command which lets you spawn items and blocks.

$75: Access to DisguiseCraft which lets you appear as a pig, cow, sheep, chicken or squid.

$100: Access to more disguises in DisguiseCraft so that you can appear as a bat, silverfish, cavespider, spider, skeleton or zombie.

$125: Access to more disguises in DisguiseCraft so that you can appear as a slime, witch, enderman, creeper, zombie pigmen or magma slime.

$150: Access to even more disguises in DisguiseCraft so that you can appear as a tamed/neutral/aggressive wolf, ocelot, all 3 types of cats, mooshroom, all types of villagers, all types of horses, snow golem or iron golem.

$175: Access to 'fly' as well as more disguises in DisguiseCraft so that you can appear as a Giant, charged creeper, wither skeleton, blaze, ghast, wither or enderdragon.

$200: Access to creative.

V. How to use the forum

a. How to sign up
When you get to the forum, there should be a button called Register under the welcoming image. Click this and follow the instruction

b. What is there to do on the forum?
There are several things to do on the forum. You can make a formal introduction of yourself to the community, discuss minecraft issues and ideas, read guides and tutorials by other players, discuss off-topic things, make applications for ranks, appeal a ban, if you for some reason get banned and many other things.

c. How to make a ban appeal
Some players get banned, either because they didn’t read the rules or because they messed up and want a second chance. If this happened to you, there is a chance to get unbanned. Go to the Ban Appeals section on the forum, copy the provided ban appeal format, fill out the blanks and make a new thread in this section. The staff that banned you will then read your application and think over whether or not he will give you another chance.

VI. What to do if you get griefed

a. Nothing to worry about
Do not worry if you find a grief in your house! Do not try to repair the damage, as staff can easily 'roll back' the grief (repair all the griefs in the area). Simply report the incident to a staff member

b. How to report an incident to a staff
The easiest way to report the incident to a staff is simply to type '/helpop Help, I've been griefed'. If any staff are online, they will come to you and investigate the grief and probably ban the player who griefed you and then roll back whatever damage was made to your property. If no staff are on, you can report the incident on the forum by going to the 'Report Rule Breakers' section and make a thread, where you provide a screenshot of the grief and coordinates (can be found by hitting the F3 button and noting down the x, y and z coordindates). The next time a staff comes on the forum, he will see your thread and deal with the grief for you.

VII. What else can you do on Oasis?

a. Special events
On Oasis we have certain events running. The last saturday of every month there is an event called 'The Promos', where deserving players get promoted to ranks such as Trusted+, Artisan, Veteran, Architect and JrMod. A few times a week, staff often also host events such as Buildoff, where 4 chosen players get a set limit of time to build something in a given theme. The hosting staff will then judge the creations and the winner will be named.

b. Minigames
On Oasis there are also different kinds of minigames, such as Prophunt (a minecraft version of Hide and Seek), Wave Survival among others.

c. PVP
Besides having a survival map we also have a PVP map, where you can have a go at your best friend or worst nemesis. Type in '/warp pvp' and you will be moved to the PVP world, where you can either fight planned matches in an arena or go out in a PVP-survival world where anything goes, besides using x-ray and other unfair mods.

d. Teamspeak
If you like to speak on a microphone and talk face-to-face, or rather voice-to-voice, with other players, you might enjoy joining the Oasis Teamspeak channel. You can download teamspeak here and the address to the channel is 'oasis-ts3.us'.
