I do stuff based on geometric designs... not too exciting.. I'm learning to be a bit more detail-oriented, but...

for me, it's all about the finest detail. first focus on the main structure and add on detail from there. Whatever looks best for you.

Errm...I've mentored some people before. I can tell you that much, but you might want to watch these guys instead.

jamziboy (versatile medieval/fantasy builder): https://www.youtube.com/user/JamziboyMinecraft

Keralis (versatile modern/medieval builder):
https://www.youtube.com/user/Keralis

A couple tips to note.

1. Don't copy tutorials block for block. That's taking other peoples' work. Somebody will know, and when they do, they will not be as impressed as they would be if you make your own original style.

2. Add on/change your own style: Always look for new things to add onto your own style. Experiment with blocks. I even changed my style because I experimented once. Looking at mmo's google images, videos, and other builds will always help you develop your style.

Take these into consideration, and you will get the hang of building in no time. c:

Pretty much this^

Try to think about how much space you want to be able to move around on the inside first, then think of what you want outside details to look like and the materials you want to use. Most people build symmetrically since it's easier to keep track of and visually appealing. Have a bunch of axes, pickaxes or shears (for wool or leaf blocks) around to make revisions and fixes quicker too good at building 758422
Also, looking at other /warps or youtube channels like Jawell put can spark great ideas! just don't copy them xD

I'm focusing on interior design at the moment since I'm not so good at that

cynder, I took a tour of your home area a while back and you have a style of building that I haven't seen elsewhere on Oasis. Personally, I like it. I think if you just keep building, your skills will improve naturally.
