Can't connect to Minecraft.net

When I try to log in in the minecraft launcher it says "can't connect to minecraft.net". My internet connection is fine and I can access minecraft.net in my browser. Does anyone know why this is happening?

Notch tends to neglect these small things. If I were you, would try the online browser and use the "Force Update" option in the options button. Also, sometimes there is nothing you can do, its just the website.

When I try to play through the browser it gives me this error message:

Does anyone know what this means or how I can fix it?

:O Umm... I don't speak Java techy, so try reinstalling Java and downloading a new minecraft.exe from the minecraft website and see if that works. Also, make sure everything is in order in your Minecraft.Jar file. It seems like the launcher is bad somehow...

My dad did something with java that fixed it. :)
